'Does heritage mean nothing to the Mayor?' - Caroline Pidgeon AM

Commenting on the news that the Mayor has refused to bow to local pressure to rename Surrey Quays tube station Surrey Docks Caroline Pidgeon AM, the Liberal Democrats transport spokesperson at the London Assembly, says: "The Mayor clearly has no interest in the heritage or culture of this part of south east London. This station was called Surrey Docks until 1989 and the re-opening of the East London line is the perfect chance to revert the station to its right and proper name."

Caroline's comments come after the publication of the Mayor's written response to a question she submitted at Mayor's Question Time, appealing for the station to be renamed.

In his response the Mayor refused to change the station's name and said it would be too costly to do so.

Caroline says: "There's a lot of support in the area to change the station's name back to what it was before and the re-opening of the East London line is the perfect time to bring back our local heritage, within reasonable costs."
