Dee Doocey, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Olympics Spokesperson, commenting on the appointment of Baroness Margaret Ford as chair of the 2012 legacy delivery company said:
"I wish Baroness Ford well, but she is being asked to do the job with her hands tied behind her back. She must provide a lasting legacy for Londoners but she has no dedicated budget and is having to report to a Tory Mayor and two Labour Ministers. This is a real recipe for disaster!
"Londoners have a right to expect that the £9.3 billion being spent on the Games will pay for more than just six weeks of sport. So far, it has been all talk and no action to deliver the bold legacy promises made in Singapore.
"It is time for the Mayor and the Government to face up to the fact that until there is a substantial budget allocated, backed up by a proper strategy and clear reporting lines, this once in a lifetime opportunity to provide a lasting legacy for Londoners will be missed."
