Commenting on the publication of the report from the Metropolitan Police Authority's (MPA) Race and Faith Inquiry, Dee Doocey a Liberal Democrat member of the MPA, said:
"It is difficult to understand why the publication of this report was delayed for 10 months, when its most radical recommendation is that line managers should no longer have the right to veto members of their staff applying for promotion.
"Why, for example, did the panel not choose to investigate the fact that between 2004 and 2009 the Met settled 78 race discrimination cases that were brought against it out of court (40% of the total).
"It remains to be seen if this report will have any real effect."
